Sarah Palin blasts Trump Carrier deal as 'crony capitalism'
Sarah Palin wants to say thanks but no thanks to Donald Trump’s Carrier factory deal, and blasted the President-elect for “crony capitalism.”
The Trump administration and the air conditioner manufacturer announced earlier this week that they had reached a deal not to close an Indiana plant in exchange for $7 million in tax breaks and grants.
However, the GOP’s former vice presidential candidate railed against the move in Young Conservatives that government interference in the economy is “a hallmark of corruption. And socialism.”
Palin endorsed Trump in a rambling speech earlier this year where she called him “master of the art of the deal,” but ripped into his decision Friday.

“Republicans oppose this, remember? Instead, we support competition on a level playing field, remember? Because we know special interest crony capitalism is one big fail,” the former Alaska governor wrote.
She said that trust should be placed in the invisible hand of the market and touted Ronald Reagan for having conservative policy rather than intervening in individual companies’ choices.
It remains to be seen what impact the Trump-Carrier deal will have for Indiana’s economy and the fate of factory workers nationwide.

Carrier will still lay off 600 workers by mid-2017, according to the Indianapolis Star, which reported Friday that the more than 1,000 jobs Carrier talked about saving include 300 engineering jobs that were not in danger of being sent to Mexico.

Some experts have questioned whether Trump’s willingness to reward companies that are cutting jobs may lead more to threaten outsourcing.
Palin’s anti-Trump op-ed also comes as she is in the running for a new job in Trump’s Cabinet, with multiple news outlets saying she is under consideration for secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Near the end of her piece she wrote that she would be “first to acknowledge” that her concerns were unfounded once the full terms of the deal are made known.
